It won't fool you. It won't shame you.
Every number and sentence in Observatory comes from your own sessions. Here is exactly how it counts.
Focus. Pause. Drift.
Run a tiny session. Pause it, leave it, come back. Watch which seconds make it into the big number and which do not.

The big number only counts focus. Pauses and drifts are tracked, shown, and never added.
- What counts as focus
- A focus session runs while the app is open on the task you chose. Only that time is added to your focus total. Nothing is estimated, and nothing is rounded up.
- What a drift is
- If you leave Observatory during a session, that is a drift. A gentle reminder invites you back. The time you were away is recorded as drift, shown to you, and never counted as focus.
- What a pause is
- If you pause a session on purpose, that is a pause. It is tracked so you can see how your sessions really run, and excluded from focus time the same way a drift is.
- Why it says "not enough data"
- Patterns need a sample. With only a handful of sessions, the app tells you it cannot say yet rather than guessing. When it does say something, it tells you how many sessions it is based on.
- A quiet day is not a failure
- No streaks to break, no penalties. A light week is called a lighter stretch, and the review moves on. The goal is an accurate picture you will keep looking at, not a scoreboard you will avoid.
- What we don't do
- We don't inflate focus time with paused or drifted minutes. We don't invent insights. We don't sell your data or show ads. See the privacy policy.
